Flutter 3.27 ships impeller on Android by default
The new release flips the Impeller renderer on for all Android devices, dropping Skia for Vulkan/OpenGL. Smoother scrolling, faster first frame, and far fewer jank reports — at the cost of a slightly larger APK.
Impeller has been the default on iOS for over a year. Android support is now considered stable for production. Apps with a lot of complex shaders should retest, but the team reports a 3-5x reduction in shader-compilation jank on first launch.
