How vision, strategy, and roadmap relate

A GOOD ANSWER COVERS These three sit in a hierarchy from abstract to concrete. The vision is the enduring, aspirational end-state: where the company wants the world or its customers to be in the long run, and why it exists. It changes rarely. The strategy is the set of deliberate choices about how to pursue that vision: which markets and users to serve, what problems to solve, where to compete and what to deliberately not do, and the key bets that create advantage. The roadmap is the time-bound execution plan that delivers the strategy: themes, outcomes, and initiatives sequenced over time. The flow is top-down for direction and bottom-up for learning: vision constrains and inspires strategy, strategy prioritizes and justifies what goes on the roadmap, and the roadmap, when executed, produces evidence that can refine the strategy and occasionally challenge the vision.

COMMON WRONG ANSWERS Treating the roadmap as a fixed promise of features on specific dates, disconnected from why. Confusing vision with strategy, or strategy with a goal. Presenting the relationship as purely one-directional with no feedback loop.
