Cloudflare uses AI to map cryptography for its post-quantum migration
Cloudflare describes using an internal tool, CryptoLabe, to discover cryptography across its code and plan a 2029 post-quantum migration.
Cloudflare describes three goals for its post-quantum migration: understand where cryptography is used, measure progress, and surface prerequisites early. It is developing CryptoLabe to discover cryptography across its internal code and operational systems, but says the tool is specialized to Cloudflare and is not available to customers.
A transferable workflow is to start with one important repository. Use automated discovery to find likely cryptography, then have an engineer verify each use, its dependencies and its actual risk before planning an upgrade. Track unresolved protocol or library support as migration blockers; an automated match is an inventory lead, not proof that a change is safe.
Interview question
After an AI tool identifies cryptography in a repository, what should an engineer do next?
- a.Replace every matched use automatically
- b.Verify the usage and dependencies before planning upgradesCorrect
- c.Assume the automated matches are complete and risk-free
- d.Wait until the entire company inventory is finished
Why? this is the answer
Cloudflare's account shows discovery is a starting point: engineers still need to verify usage, dependencies and blockers before planning migration work.
