A 2020 Nielsen Norman Group survey of over 350 organizations found the most typical UX staffing ratio is 1 researcher to 5 designers to 50 developers, an improvement from the 1:5:100 reported just three years prior. While half of companies now have at least 1 researcher per 10 designers, these numbers vary widely by organization size and UX maturity. Treat ratios as a benchmarking compass, not a maturity scorecard: staffing counts alone cannot measure research quality or strategic influence.
