Study: Disclosing AI use makes you seem 10x lazier
A study of ~1,000 workers found disclosing AI use makes you seem 10x lazier. Even with identical output, peers were 24% less likely to recommend you for key projects. While 94% use AI, the stigma means silence is often the safest career strategy.
A study of ~1,000 U.S. workers found disclosing AI use makes you seem 10x lazier and makes you 24 percentage points less likely to get a high-visibility project. This perception penalty exists even when work output is identical. While 94% of knowledge workers use AI, a strong stigma remains. For now, be mindful of your team's norms.
